Coyote Swap'd Wrangler

In the Jeep world it is common to swap out factory engines for an option with more power. The most popular options considered are LS, Hemi or diesel, but not a Ford Coyote 5.0l V8. We have yet to see the modern Ford Coyote 5.0l V8 swapped into a Jeep until now. Here at Happy Trails 4x4 we did just that with a customer's 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ.

Fitting the wide Ford Coyote 5.0l V8 in the engine bay seemed like it would be the hardest part. The Metal Cloak fenders gave us more room versus the factory fenders, plus they enhance the look of the Jeep and add protection. We ended up relocating the engine oil filter on top of the driver-side inner fender because in its original location on the engine block, it would interfere with other frame/suspension components. The power steering pump was converted to an electric pump due to the lack of room under the hood. We have found the electric pump to turn the 37.0 inch Maxxis Trepadors with ease. Custom engine and transmission-crossmember mounts were fabricated. Behind the Ford 6R80 automatic transmission is an Atlas 2-speed transfer-case to handle the power when in four wheel drive. We swapped out the weak Dana 35 rear differential for a Ford 8.8 with an LSD and disc brakes.

Under the hood the Ford Coyote 5.0l V8 fits nicely between the Metal Cloak fenders. The aluminum radiator provides excellent cooling.

The old worn out factory seats got replaced with a set of Corbeau's.

A WARN Zeon 10-S winch sits upfront.

This has been an amazing opportunity for us to be able to let our customer have this engine in his Jeep. We look forward to hearing about his adventures with his Ford Coyote 5.0l V8 powered Jeep!

If you would like to see this Jeep in person, we are planning to have it at our booth for Jeep Beach 2019.
